  • Everything, but Country



    Why do some people have the above statement when answering a "Favorite Music" question?


    I understand that country music is not everyone's cup of tea, but answering with such a statement makes one to ponder if the person really enjoys everything else.


    If the following statement is true, then one can perceive that the person also enjoys Opera, Showtunes, Classical, Romantic Classical Period pieces, New Age, Jazz, Swing, Chinese Pop, Japan Pop, Kazahkstan Pop, etc.


    Of course, in many cases, this is not true. Everything, but country is a misleading statement. If it is true, kudos.


     


    I am not refering to anyone's Myspace, Friendster, OhBeezy, etc profile in particular. The statement is from numerous sightings and has no direct reference to any particular individual. Basically, don't get all emo if you do have this statement in a profile.

  • That statement does apply to me as I did stay in Kazahkstan for a couple days and happened to hear some K-pop... it's ok...  I will take that over country though. RENT counts as a showtune... and it was based on La Boheme... which is an Opera.. WIN.

  • Mainly this statement comes from a precognition of your past country which the main opinion was derived from a stereotyped view of past country songs. This judgment of country music based on preconcieved notions based on old data that was gathered and that is possibly outdated. Thus the misconception of country music or possible misconception is solely based on ignorance rather than actual dislike for country music. Thus in order for a person to really dislike country music is for them to actually hear some current country music and make a decision based on a wide sample of songs within the country music genre. However using the Music Genome project that is utilized by Pandora.com, it is possibly proven based on the genomes of a person's taste of music that certain country songs will fit that genome thus their claim that they like everything except country would be voided.
