  • The Random Five

Last night after class, one of my school's basketball players walked passed me. As he passed, out of nowhere told me, "C'mon down low," and actioned a low five. That prompted me to drop the hand and slap a low five without losing a beat in our steps.

Perhaps it was prompted because I was playing Bad Religion's "Infected" on my phone's loud speaker and I was moving my head to the beat.

Conclusion, music brings the world together.

  • Time Travel Feasible?

    Here's a Yahoo Featured article:

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/livescience/20070820/sc_livescience/timetravelmachineoutlined

I find it amazing that such things could be a possibility even if its in the distant future. Although the current idea of the time machine is that you can only go back as far as the machine was created (which would be no fun at all), it shows progress.

On the otherhand, these researchers are going the wrong path.

We all know that the flux capacitor is what makes time travel possible.

  • Tom Cruise, Mind over Matter

On Yahoo News, there is an article about 11 extras injured on Tom Cruise's set for his new movie.

My question is, "Did Tom Cruise heal those 11 extras with his mind?"

Supposedly, being a level 7 Scientologist, he should be able to heal people with his mind, communicate with plants & animals, and control people's thoughts.

  • Music and Medicine

I'm officially a band geek again. I joined my college's pep and concert band.

So where are my instrumental skills at after nearly 8 years of non-playing status?

    • Tone quality is not exactly where it was

    • Lung capacity lower

    • Lip strength weak

    • Music reading ability not that bad.

I guess its pretty much almost like riding a bike. Maybe in a month I'll be back to an acceptable level. I just hope I'm not the weakest link.

Medical Terminology class is a lot of work... but I enjoy it. All this schoolwork is giving me direction rather than coming home after work and wondering what I'll be doing every night.

Focus Jess, you can do it. That's all I tell myself.

Oh on the side note, got floor tickets for KROQ LA Invasion!!!

    • The Smashing Pumpkins

    • Foo Fighters

    • Velvet Revolver

    • Chris Cornell

    • plus much much more!

FYI: They had me at Smashing.

  • Ima gitin' mah edumacation!

Last night, I went to my first class since June 12, 2004 (graduation).

I was walking around campus (lost of course) with a smile on my face and a backpack with hardly anything in it. It was probably similar to the scene in Spiderman 2 where Peter Parker has a big smile on his face when he temporarily gave up the whole hero business (the "Rain Drops keep falling on my head" scene).

I was so ecstatic being back in school again and way overdue. Pretty much joyful until I got my syllabus and reality struck.

    • Quizzes

    • Midterms

    • Finals

    • Medical Paper

    • etc.

    Yeah...

I forgot about those things, but I remain confident with the goal to graduate in the top 5 of the program.

  • The Return of the Faux Hawk

I cut my locks a week ago at a fabulous salon that served complimentary wine. Anyways, here is the new do if you haven't seen it already (the red is temp, I work in an office!).

Okay, can't really see it. The photographer didn't catch it right, but its a faux hawk like I had years ago. Please disregard my intoxicated state. I was at a concert of course.

My faux hawk about 3-4 years ago. Wowzers, so young.

  • Rant: Concert Sound Engineers

Louder is not better. Yes its the headliner on stage, but making them louder than the house and opening bands does not mean a thing when everything becomes distorted. I'm sure their music can stand on its own, since um, they ARE the headliner for a reason.

Maybe I'm getting older and ever more critical for a perfect concert experience or maybe its just that I know after 100+ concerts in my lifetime what sounds good (plus 8 years of playing in an orchestra/ensemble/marching band does cause one to be picky).

So Engineer Person, here's a refresher course:

    • Balance

    • um... Balance

    • yes... Balance, as much as I love blistering guitar riffs penetrating my ear lobes, the whole idea that I can't hear a single lyric from the front man is well utterly disappointing.

    • Remember what venue you are in. I swear sometimes some small venue shows I've been to is loud enough to power an arena concert.

It may not be the sound engineers fault. It could be the band asking for it to be louder. Whatever the reason, the point is that its too loud and unbalanced. When the drums sound distorted, that's a problem. This is sometimes why a band will be referred to as a "studio band." Good only in the studio (CD) than live.

  • New Era

Its official. I am now a FALCON; a Cerritos College Falcon! My first step to be a physical therapist.

I was worried I wouldn't be accepted to a community college with my Bachelors degree from Cal Poly Pomona, a college GPA of 3.3, a high school GPA of 3.72, and a multitude of extra-curricular activities.

I'm so excited to go back to school~! Yea, I know... such a nerd.

  • Happy Birthday Tea!

I know this dude doesn't want me to say it, but yes, HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRO! Only got love for ya dude.

    Rick-James-Animated

  • The Promise Land

I've seen it. It was glorious.

It consisted of a white bald headed rocker playing ZERO, MUZZLE, TONIGHT, TODAY, etc.

The concert rocked my nuts off. Jumping up and down, dancing, headbanging, throwing my fist in the air, lighter up for slow songs... it rocked. The girl next to me kept calling me "number 1 fan." Such an honor or sheer awesomeness.

Basically the Smashing Pumpkins ear fucked me so hard with blistering guitar solos, riffs, thundering drums that I had multiple music orgasms.

So where does this concert rank in my top 5?

    1. The Smashing Pumpkins May 23rd, 2000 @ the Universal Amphitheater (the day they announced the breakup on KROQ radio).

    2. The Smashing Pumpkins @ Virgin Megastore, Sunset Blvd (waited in the rain for 12+ hours for a private show with only 200 max people infront of the store).

    3. The Smashing Pumpkins @ Fillmore, SF July 28th, 2007 (absolutely wasted with my hetero-lifemate).

    4. Zwan @ the Glasshouse, Pomona (first concert for the band and it was with my closest friends)

    5. Foo Fighters & Weezer @ the Long Beach Sports Arena (the Foo can rock and I touched Dave Grohl's sweaty back; SCORE!)
