Recently, I've been drinking Baileys on the rocks when I get home after work. One high ball glass usually gets me lit so if you chat with me around the early evening hours, I'm most likely buzzed.
Yes, I drink alone... and no, Dashboard Confessional is not playing on my stereo and I am not curled up in the corner crying about times that could have been.
I drink my Baileys and Guiness while I practice songs on my guitar. Does that make me an alcoholic?
Soon I will be 26. I hate to associate age with the level of maturity, but I must say that I am mentally different than the person I was 3-4 years ago. I no longer jump into action, but rather ponder the consequences before proceeding. I rationalize each situation before moving forward. I'd rather be friends first before pursuing a romantic relationship. I cheated on Newcastle and fell in love with Guiness.
The Jess of the early to mid 20's would drive aimlessly, go anywhere with no plans, drink excessive amounts of alcohol, go clubbing 3 nights in a row, mosh in crazy pits, drink Heineken, and go head over heels for a girl I met a week ago.
Yeah, the second one sounds "funner." Eh. I've slowed down. A Friday night amongst friends at one of the houses singing ghetto karaoke on my laptop is exciting to me nowadays.
How will I ring in JessFest 2007?
At Buena Park's Pirate's Dinner Adventure!!! Arrr!!!
Venue-Fetish
I sometimes go to a rock show just to check out the venue and not the bands even though I've been there countless of times before.
I love the history in the Hollywood venues. The Troubadour, for example, has hosted some of rock's biggest acts in a venue that makes the Avalon look like the Staples Center. In these venues, you can sit at the bar and still be about 20 feet away from the stage. Its a beautiful sight.
Impressed
AnBerlin's show really impressed me. It was quite awesome as well as the opening bands too.
Meg & Dia were cool too and very cute in person
Teeny bopper girl went up to me all shy and asked, "Are you the guitarist?"
I said, "No." I guess I do look a bit like him with my hair covering one eye and the fact that I was standing next to Meg & Dia outside the venue.
AnBerlin Tonight
After I do my wretched taxes, I'll be headed out to the great city of Pomona...
I dig having tickets to a sold out show and having teeny boppers beg for my ticket. Early bird captures the worm kids... or in my case, the Late bird that once dated another bird (with connections to get almost any underground band tickets) who hurt the Late bird years ago, but feels guilty up to this day for her actions. In retribution, the bird does kindly favors to the Late bird to lessen the guilt.
With the break up of the Juliana Theory and the Get Up Kids, AnBerlin has become one of my favorite current emo/indie rock bands out there. It will be on the line though as the live rock show can either make or break the band in my eyes considering that I have not seen them on stage yet.
The Glasshouse. Not exactly an eye-appealing establishment, nevertheless it is a place special to my heart. One of the main reasons is that Billy Corgan has once graced himself upon the small stage with his previous post-Smashing Pumpkin band; Zwan. Although alcohol is not sold in this all ages venue, "in's-&-out's" is allowed which opens up a wide spectrum of intoxicating delights either by way of the bars across the street or the "mobile" bar in a car.
AnBerlin - "Time And Confusion"
woah oh, yeah-ah
woah oh, yeah-ah
woah oh
live for today
we'll dream tomorrow
we've got big plans in sight
we'll take this city and by nightfall...
the bright lights are calling
everything is going our way
everything is just as we've planned
this is our future (from what we've heard)
and i've still got your hand
and it feels like we could last forever
and i'm not doing this alone
[Chorus]
when memories fade
we've got each other
when time and confusion collide
singin' i hold it all when i hold you
when friends walk other ways
we've got each other
i hold it all when i hold
i hold it all when i hold you
woah oh, yeah-ah
woah oh, yeah-ah
woah oh
we fell on hard times
this isn't the ideal
we're miles from home
doing the best that we can (best that we can)
i won't do this without you
i won't do this without you
so take heart...
'cause you know that you have mine
and it feels like we could last forever
and i'm not doing to do this alone
[Chorus]
[Bridge:]
its not about the money we make
its about the passions that we ache for
what makes your heart beat faster
tell me now what does your body long after
i don't care now where we live
it's not where, or what, or who we were with
i just need you in my life
so promise me again
when memories fade
we've got each other
when time and confusion collide
singin' i hold it all when i hold you
when friends walk other ways
we've got each other
i hold it all when i hold
i hold it all when i hold you
woah oh, yeah-ah
woah oh, yeah-ah
woah oh
300
Last night Noah, Priscilla, Daniel, Ahn, Nydia, and I saw the midnight showing of 300 which is the movie about the mighty Spartans taking on the million man Persian Imperial Army.
To make this short, if you like beautiful cinimatic artistic fight scenes and nothing more, then watch 300. I do, so I enjoyed it. There are some scenes that would make great stills with the excellent color blends.
